How to Donate Fabric, Machines, or Supplies

In-kind donations make a tremendous difference to our ability to provide the DC Threads Sewing Lounge free for all participants. Donations of fabric, notions, books, patterns, supplies and sewing machines are used in our DC Threads Sewing Lounge sessions, or are passed on to non-profit youth sewing organizations that need them too.

What We Especially Need
  • Easy-to-sew fabrics (esp. cottons) in lengths of one yard or more. At this time, we have plenty of home decor fabric, so our greater need is light-weight apparel fabrics.
  • Thread of all kinds
  • Sewing machines in working condition
  • Clear storage bins for storing and transporting fabric and other supplies
  • Extension cords
  • Irons and ironing boards

This high-quality program is provided completely free of charge to our participants, thanks to the work of our great team of volunteers. However, there are many behind-the-scenes costs that make this program possible, like website hosting fees, refreshments, photocopying and printing, and extra supplies. Your financial support can make a big difference in our ability to continue offering this program, and hopefully extend it to more locations in the future!
